Step by step
- 1
Know your email and password
You need your registered email address and your account password. If you forgot the password, reset it first from Tumblr's password reset page. If you signed up with Google or Apple, you also need access to your registered email so you can set a password.
- 2
Open Settings on the web
Click Settings in the left menu.
- 3
Click Delete Account
Scroll to the bottom of the Settings page and click the Delete Account button. If your account is connected to Google or Apple, Tumblr asks you to send a password reset. Click Send password reset, reset the password from the email, log back in and click Delete Account again.
- 4
Confirm with your email and password
Enter your email address and password, then click Delete my account. If two-factor authentication is on, enter the code too.
- 5
Keep the confirmation email
Tumblr emails you the date your account will be fully deleted and a link to restore it. Keep that email until the date has passed.
Watch out for
- Deleting your primary blog deletes your entire account. Secondary blogs with no other members go with it, and you're removed from group blogs.
- Reblogs stay. Once someone reblogs a post, that copy belongs to their blog, so deleting your account doesn't remove it.
- Likes, asks and submissions you sent to other blogs stay, and so do posts you published in communities. Messages sit in both accounts, so the people you talked to still have them.
- Tumblr keeps the account for 30 days. You can't log in during that time, but you can restore it from the link in the confirmation email. After 30 days it's permanently deleted.
- After 30 days your blog name is released and anyone can take it. You can then sign up again with the same email address. To reuse the username or email right away, change them before you delete.

Other ways to do it
- 1
Delete from the iOS or Android app
Tap the account icon, tap the cog icon in the upper right corner, then tap General settings (iOS) or Account Settings (Android). Scroll down, tap Delete account, enter your email address and password, and tap Delete my account.
- 2
Delete only a secondary blog
On the web, click Settings, click the blog's name, then click Delete [blogname] at the bottom. Deleting your primary blog deletes the whole account. A secondary blog deleted on its own can't be recovered.
What stays out there
Deleting your Tumblr account stops new data at Tumblr. It doesn't reach reblogged copies on other blogs, or copies that people-search sites and search engines already took from a public profile.
If your Tumblr used your real name or a username you use elsewhere, search for them after deletion. Old cached pages can stay in search results for a while. Serus finds where your details are listed and removes them. You can also work through the broker opt-out guides yourself.
Frequently asked
Can I restore a deleted Tumblr account?
Yes, within 30 days. Open the restore link in the confirmation email Tumblr sent when you deleted it. If it errors, paste the link into a different, current browser. After 30 days the account can't be recovered.
Does deleting Tumblr remove my reblogs?
No. Your own posts are removed, but a reblog belongs to the blog that reblogged it and stays there.
Can I delete my Tumblr account in the app?
Yes. Tap the account icon, then the cog, then General settings (iOS) or Account Settings (Android), and tap Delete account.
I signed up with Google or Apple. How do I delete the account?
On the web, Tumblr asks you to send a password reset to your registered email. Set a password, log back in, and click Delete Account again.
Can I reuse my Tumblr username after deleting?
Not for 30 days. After that the name is released and anyone can register it, so change your username before deleting if you want to use it on a new account right away.
