In the Account preferences section, under Account management, click Change next to Close account.

Watch out for

  • Closing your account permanently deletes your profile and removes access to all your LinkedIn information.
  • It also deletes the recommendations and endorsements you've given or received, and your messages and connections.
  • If you have Premium, you can cancel Premium and keep a free Basic account, which keeps your profile, connections and other information.
  • A Premium membership, a group you own or a premium account license has to be resolved before you can close the Basic account. If your account is tied to an enterprise account (Recruiter, Learning or Sales Navigator, for example), an administrator has to remove you first.
  • In most cases you can reopen the account within 14 days, but endorsements, recommendations, pending invitations, followings and group memberships don't come back.
  • Search engines such as Google may still show your information for a while after you close the account.

What stays out there

Closing your account removes your LinkedIn profile. It doesn't remove copies elsewhere: people-search sites that copied your profile, or old search results that still show it for a while.

Those listings stay until someone requests removal. Serus finds where your details are listed and removes them. Start at serus.ai.

Frequently asked

Can I keep my profile and just cancel Premium?

Yes. LinkedIn says you can cancel Premium and keep your free Basic account, which keeps your profile, connections and other information.

Will my profile disappear from Google right away?

Not necessarily. LinkedIn says search engines such as Google may still display your information temporarily because of how they collect and update their data.

What gets deleted when I close my account?

Your profile, the recommendations and endorsements you've given or received, your messages and your connections.

Where is the Close account option?

Click the Me icon, choose Settings & Privacy, and look under Account management in the Account preferences section.
