Step by step

  1. 1

Register an email on the account

Kakao says you must register your Kakao Account email address before you can delete KakaoTalk. An account with no email can't be logged into after KakaoTalk is deleted.

  2. 2

    Review your connected services

In KakaoTalk, open More > Settings > Kakao Account > Manage Connected Services.

  3. 3

End linked services or change settings

Kakao may refuse deletion when it could cause financial problems or affect other people's use of services. Terminate the linked services it lists.

  4. 4

    Finish open orders

If you have items in delivery or on order, Kakao says you can only delete the account after delivery is complete or after the refund period has passed.

  5. 5

    Delete the account

Go to accounts.kakao.com, open Account Use and choose Delete Kakao Account. Kakao says this page is available after you unregister from KakaoTalk.

Watch out for

  • Kakao may block deletion while linked services, orders or refund periods are still open.
  • If you only ever used KakaoTalk and never registered an email, Kakao says deleting KakaoTalk also deletes the Kakao Account.
  • For accounts deleted through SMS verification, Kakao says the KakaoTalk account for that phone number can't be registered again for at least 60 days.

What stays out there

Deleting your Kakao Account ends your account at Kakao and the services tied to it. It doesn't touch your phone number and name in caller-ID apps, contact lists other people uploaded and people-search databases.

Friends who saved your number can still sync it into other services. Serus finds where your details are listed and removes them.

Frequently asked

Can I re-register with the same phone number after deleting?
