Serus is a privacy company with paid tools to find and remove your personal data. This guide shows the free way to do it yourself.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Remove your devices

Ring says deleting the account ends your subscriptions and stops your devices from working. Remove every device from the account first.

  2. 2

    Open Control Center

Sign in to the Ring app (from the menu) or to ring.com, where Control Center sits under Account.

  3. 3

    Choose Data Management

Open Data Management. One Ring help article calls this option Manage Your Data.

  4. 4

    Select Delete Data

Pick Delete Data in the section for deleting your personal data, including your Ring account.

  5. 5

    Enter your password and confirm

Enter your password, then confirm the deletion.

Watch out for

  • Deletion is permanent. Ring can't reverse it, and you lose your saved videos, so save any you want to keep first.
  • Ring says the account is permanently deleted within 30 days after you submit the request, not instantly.
  • Deleting the account ends your Ring subscriptions and your devices stop working until you set them up on a new account.
  • Ring's pages name the option Data Management in one place and Manage Your Data in another. The label can differ by app version.

What stays out there

Deleting your Ring account stops Ring from holding your data going forward. It doesn't touch copies that data brokers and people-search sites already hold, such as your home address and the names of people who live there.

If your address shows up on a people-search site, that listing stays until someone files an opt-out with that site. Serus finds where your details are listed and removes them.
